Wines, Towers and Castles

1st day

A travel across the medieval atmospheres of San Gimignano and
Monteriggioni will take us through the vineyards, the cellars
and the history of the 3 great Tuscan red wines (Chianti,
Nobile di Montepulciano, Brunello di Montalcino).

The tour begins in the Florentine territory, in Greve in Chianti,
a town famous for its square. Near Greve we will visit the
Verazzano castle, where the famous navigator Giovanni, the
discoverer of the New York bay, was born. The Verrazzano have been
producing Chianti for centuries.

After the lunch in Greve, in the afternoon, guided
tour of San Gimignano, the city with 72 towers. Free
time. At the end, transfer to the hotel, accommodation
in the rooms, dinner and overnight stay.

2nd day

Breakfast in hotel. Meeting point with your guide in
Piazza Grande, Montepulciano, where it will begin a
journey to discover the city of Vino Nobile, through its
Renaissance buildings and its historic cellars. Standing
wine-tasting of the wine that the noble poet Francesco
Redi defined: 'the king of all wines ". Later in the
morning, we will continue with the visit of Pienza,
the ideal Renaissance town, birthplace of Pope
Pius II and home of the famous pecorino. After the
visit free lunch in Pienza.

In the afternoon transfer to Montalcino (24km), the town of
the Brunello wine where we will visit the cellars of a company
and where we make a tasting of at least 3 wines including a Brunello.
Dinner and overnight in hotel.

3rd day

Breakfast in hotel. The day starts in the heart of Chianti, near Gaiole, Meleto Castle. In Meleto you will visit one of the residences of the Ricasoli barons, built on a medieval castle and its cellars. At the end of the visit a tasting 3 types of Chianti produced by Meleto will be offered.

After a stop in Castellina in Chianti where you should stop for lunch, the tour continues through the heart of the production area of Chianti Classico Gallo Nero, towards Monteriggioni, where the tour will finish. Monteriggioni is an old fortress built by people from Siena to guard the boundary with Florentine state. A place where is still possible to find a medieval atmosphere.
